Re: Douglass Elementary School
Change Order No.
3
Dear Mr. Bussl.nger:
Enclosed is change order No. 3 j.n the amount of $1, S: O.Zg
extra for additional work reguired on the foundations for
the primary wing of the Douglass Elementary School. This
was necessitated by the soil conditions encountered. f
have previously discussed these iterns with you and Mr. Durfey but for the record, I wish to reiterate thern.
A very wet, soft condi-tion was encountered on the primary
wing which nade it necessaty to lower the footings a
maximum of 4 ft. to obtain firn bearing.
Hand excavation
of an additional 200.37 yds. of earth was required.
It was deemed advisable to install a tile drain around
the outside wall to keep the building dry. The drain has
a gravel backfill aver it afld is carried to the creek
with a headwa11.
The added depth of footings also caused an excessive
height of uasupported foundatl"on wa11. After consuLtations wl"th our structural engineer, tt was found that
this could be corrected by lowerirrg the grade around the
wing a raaximum of 2 ft,. and placing concrete fill around
the insj.de of the wa11 for reinforcing.
Cernent parging
will be applied to the outside wa11 where the grade was
dropped.
An itemized account of labor and materials involved in
this r,qork is attached. The quantlties have been checked
from profiles submitted with the estinate arrd they appeat
to be ln order.
Very truly yours,
@L/ &/4i*+,
