LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

OF LOUDOUN COUNTY, VIRGINIA

Leesburg, Virginia

Attentions Mpr, [ December 12, 1955

Mr. D¢ N, Myers, Chairman
Loudoun County School Board
Leesburg, Virginia |

Dear Mr. Myers:

The League of Women Voters of Loudoun County is seeking the answers
to a number of questions raised by the impending referendum on hold-
ing a Constitutional Convention in Virginia to reseind section 141
of the state constitution. We believe you ean help us and others to
gind some of the answers., To that end we submit the following ques-
» LONS o ' - : : '

/ Assuming section 141 shall have been rescinded and that integration shall
. have been required in Loudoun schools by Court order:

1) How much money would a Loudoun family desiring a private segre-
gated school for its children receive per child State funds?

2) If faced with the above situation today, would y;E; as a board
vote to pay to a family desiring private segregated schooling for lts
children the equivalent of the cost to the count of the education
of each child? '

j

3) How much would that smount to per child per year?

4) If you should vote such funds would it be possible to maintain
the present standards in publiec schools without an increase in per
capita cost? *

5) How would you assure that tax money paid to individusls for private
schooling would be spent for that purpose? '

6) What is the present cost per pupil per year for bus transportation?
7) If transportation should be furnished to pupils in private schools,
because of objection to integrated schools, do you visualize the county
providing busses, as now, or giving to the parents of such pupils the
equivalent in cash of the per capita transportation cost?

We ggank you for this opportunity to cfinsult with you on this serious
propiem,

Slncerely yeurs;
