Statement on Integration - Teachers , September 1956

The Virginia Constitution authorizes and requires the General Assembly
of Virginia to provide an efficient system of public free schoolse

The Virginia Constitution, until recently, prohibited mixed schoolse

The Supreme Court decisions of 1954 and 1955 have nullified thisg provisione
The courts do not administer the schoolse The school system of Loudoun
County is still subject to the direction of the Ueneral Agsembly and of

the State Board of “ducation.

We have no authdrity in Loudoun County to operate mixed schools unless
directed to do so by the State Authorities or specifically by a court decreee

Consequently, if any piipils of the opposite face seek admittance to your
school, you should refuse such admittanceg merely stating that you have no
