Drinking Cups and Water

16. The common drinking cup is illegal as well as dangerous and can
not be permitted in any school. Any school having no running water or
pump must be supplied with a water cooler. A teacher finding no water
cooler in the school building should at cnce report the fact to ‘the district
member of the school board

Physical Exercises ;

17. All pupils shall be required to devote at least five minutes each
day to physical exercises. Teachers are required to make a physical inpec-
tion of all pupils under the directions from the school nurse and to send
a report to the office of the superinendent not later than Oct. 3rd.

Registers

18. Registers will always be subject to inspection by principals, super-
vizors, the superintendent and board members and on this account should
be kept at the school house and in proper shape.

School Ages

19. Children who will not be 6 years of age until Nov. 1 or after can not
be admitted to school this session.” School ages are 7 to 20 by law and
chitdren who are 6 years old may attend school by permission of the super-
intendent and teacher.

Athletic Games

20. Principals or teachers are required to secure the approval in
advance of the division superintendent before permiting pupils to engage in
any interscholastic games on school days.

PROVISIONS OF THE COMPULSORY EDUCATION LAW

1...To Whom It Applies—Children who are 8 years of age but not 14.
Those exempted are children weak in body and mind, attending a private
school, living more than two miles by usually traveled route from the nearest
public school, or more than one mile from the line of an established free
wagon route, or who have completed the seventh grade and are actually
working.

2. Leneth of Attendance—During the entire year.

3. Reports—The division superintendent will serve as attendance officer.
Within fifteen days after the opening of school each principal or one-room
teacher is required to send in an enrollment report (Form C. A. No. 1) and
at the same time to send a list of children of ages 8 to 13 inclusive who are
not enrolled (Form C. A. No. 2). Teachers are required to report to the
superintendent at once all absences of five days by children aged 8 to 13
unless such absenses are known bv the teacher tgbe on account of illness
or the removal of the child from the school neigifborhood. (Use Form C.

4. Penaltu—A fine not exceeding $25.00 thr cach offense.

5. How Prosecuted—In the Circuit Court at Leeshurg or before district
magistrate on complaint made by the division superintendent in the name of
the Commonwealth of Vi-ginia—the prosecution in all cases to be conducted
by the attorney for the Commonwealth.
