County Board of Supervisors in | .
; : ; . igrees, }
meeting here Friday voiced dis-|pnormal
approval of a proposition made by | grees.
Superintendent of Schools O. L.
Emerick that the surplus funds in
the county be used to supplement
the present salaries of the county
school teachers. Supervisor Hirst
made a motion, which was sec-
onded by Supervisor Sands, to ap-
propriate $5,500 to be used as a
bonus for certain public school
teachers at the discretion of the
School Board. This motion was
lost by a three to two vote, Super-
visors Baker, Mock, and Whitmore
voting in the negative. !
| Superintendent Emerick made
an appeal before the supervisors
‘or his proposal, stating that it
as difficult to secure efficient
acners at present salaries and
sointed cut the disaster to the
school system if poorly-trained
[teachers are employed. Mr. Emer-
jck said, “There is no better way
to safe-guard the liberties of the
future than in the public schools.”
Supervisor Baker led the oppo-
cition to the proposal and said,
“Through this little surplus, we
might give the taxpayers some re-
lief next year.”
