‘around which education swings to
usefulness. The individual without
character is headed for ruin. The
home without character will soon
disintegrate. The government
without character is headed for
anarchy. A nation without char-
acter is on the road that led to
the destruction of ancient Babylon,
Greece and Rome.
Thus in all our relationships in
school may we this year seek with
more than ordinary earnestness
high Christian standards and ap-
preciate the- full significance of
these lines taken from the great
literature we enjoy studying to-
gether:
“Build thee more stately mansions,
O my soul,
As the swift seasons roll!
Leave thy low-vaulted past!
Let each new temple, nobler than
the last,
Shut thee from heaven with a
dome more vast,
| Till thou at length art free,
Leaving thine out-grown shell by
life’s unresting sea!”
In this spirit we are happy to
|{ welcome the patrons and pupils of
Lincoln High School this year.
