purchase a tract or parcel of land adjacent to the colored high
school property in the norfh section of the town of Leesburg and
also adjacent to fihe Union Cemetery of Leesburg and U. S. Foute
No. 153 and

Whereas, it is apparent that the said cemetery will soon
‘need the land the said school board is endeavoring to purchase for
the purpose of affording additional space for burying ground; and

Whereas, only a few colgred children who attend the said high
school live north of Harket Street; and

Whereas, if the said land should be purchased by the said
school board, we do not believe that the same would be sultable for

the futura needs of a achaol for the celared children af Les;&umg

and the surrounding community because of the location and 1mmediate
surroundings as well as the fact that it is remote from the place
where the majority of the colored children live:

Now, therefore, we the undersigned petitioners, request the
School Board of Loudofin County, Virginia, not to purchase the land
adjacent to the colored high school in Leesburg because it is ob-
vious that to do so would 59 particularly detrimental to the Union
Cemetery of Leesburg and would not £ill the future needs for additional
facilities to educate the colored youth of the community and also
because the location of the sald school is not desirable for the
colored children who sttend 1t. = =

We are in favor of doing ali thgt can be done within reason
for the colored children of the community, but we think this can be
done best by selecting the most desirablé,location for a permanent
investment and that this should be as close as possitle to the most
'thickly populated colored section of the community.

Respectfully submltted,
