2.6 Legislative Files

  • Misc Files 1954-56.   Various memoranda and reports dealing with legislation as it pertained to education. Nothing on the African-American experience.
  • No 2.  Legislative News Flash, Virginia Education Association, Jan 3, 1956.  Complaints and positive observations on legislative actions in Richmond.
  • Feb 1, 1956.   Report of a five-year study (1951/52 - 1955/56) of elementary schools in Virginia. Doesn’t discuss African-Americans at all, just declines local and emergency permits, problems with increased teacher loads and a lack of sufficient numbers of adequately trained primary and elementary school students.  Although African-Americans didn’t figure in the study as far as we can tell, as the Edwin Washington Project further gathers statistical information, it will be interesting to compare our findings with this study.  (because this file is legal sized, it has been placed in the box Misc Legal Sized Folders).
  • Feb 3, 1956.   Brief Review of Bills and Joint Resolutions on Education. Nothing on African-American issues.
