Related Academic files were combined into this folder for ease of locating.  Keep in mind that the digital folder (e.g. Ashburn Colored) contain both the scan of the original Teacher Term Report that in the Box, as well as transcriptions of the reports and analysis.

In the case of Douglass Elementary and Douglass HS, we have also included non-academic material such as construction files, mainly due to the historic importance of the two schools. Editorial Note:  We will need to cross reference those files to Chapter Nine, as appropriate.

Cowling.  In addition, There were several Assistant Secretaries of Education that covered Black education over time, including Archie Richardson and Mr. Cowling.  Action.  We should create a specific digital folder that captures all of their correspondence.  This is important, as they moved philanthropic funds to the colored schools and impacted the management of such schools.  Richardson’s personal files have been deposited to Virginia State University, Archives Library.
