started in previous grades and take up scale writing and simple
dictation. They also make 'a special study of orchestral
instruments and their history.
In the seventh grade we continue the study of notes,
treble and bass, key signatures, scale writing, syllable singing,
sight reading, and writing melodies from dication. In addition
to the foregoing mechanics of music, we study composers (one
each .onth). All upper grade groups sing patriotic selections,
hymns and seasonal songs. Je do two part singing and occasionally
three part. In the upper grades we have an enthusiastic tonette
band of thirteen members, which is doing two part playing with
piano accompeniment. Ve feel that this has been of great value
in teaching time, sight reading, and team work.
We vary the resular class work with rhythm dances, drills,
reels, and sguare dancéigi
Tn addition to this comprehensive course in school music,
private piano lessons are available to the students. Twelve
oupils have taken advantage of this opportunity and are doing
good work playing for &roup singing and taking part on prograisS.
We feel deeply grateful to our teacher, liiss Elizabeth
Chamblin, who works tirelessly to bring out the best in each
child, I also want to give credit to my teachers who have been
most cooperative in keeping the interest alive from day to daye.
