THE BOYS:

The Loudoun County High School Boys’ Chorus was or-
ganized three years ago, by its director, P. J. Fitzgerald, Super-
visor of Music, Loudoun County Schools, and is one of a variety
of music offerings at Loudoun High. The group meets as an
activity once per week, for the primary purpose of fun and fellow-
ship through singing. The only criteria for membersghip in this
unique organization are a desire to participate and willingness to
attend rehearsals. The Boys’ Chorus has had a wholesome effect
in the school, and is a dynamic part of the total music program.
It has provided a stimulating experience for boys who would not
usually enroll in music courses~yet it oft-times serves as the in-
troduction and incentive to pursue music in depth.

THE SCHOOL:

The present school located in Leesburg was built in 1954 for
1000 pupils, the current enrollment. However, until two years ago
when a new high school was built in the county, enrollment had
soared to 1500. The curriculum is divided into Academic, Business,
and General, with students attending classes according to this
grouping in English, mathematics, social studies, and science.
In all other classes grouping is heterogeneous. Semester courses
in art, music, English, and business are very popular. 30% of the
graduates each year secure employment with the federal govern-
ment in Washington. Another 35% go on to college, with the
majority attending in Virginia, although some are even now en-
rolled as far away as Harvard, Georgia Tech, and Texas.

The principal is Mr. B. W. Letson, and assistant principal
is Mr. J. Lupton Simpson.

THE DIVISION:

Loudoun County is located north-west of our Nation’s
Capital, in an area rich in the traditions of old Virginia. Its tran-
quil country-side, and pbeautiful old estates contrast sharply with
the dramatic new Dulles International Airport and other installa-
tions of the Jet Age. Its close proximity to Washington, D.C.
affords Loudoun County residents unusual opportunities in vo-
cational, educational, and cultural activities.

Mr. C. M. Bussinger serves as the division superintendent.
