We don’t know if a Paeonian Springs Colored School was ever actually built; but on 16 October 1934, the “colored” citizens of the hamlet told the School Board that they wanted their own school house for their children in lieu of sending them to Waterford, which was too far “to send the little ones and there is no transportation provided.”
Regardless of whether the school actually came to be, we created this page to honor the Black parents who struggled to provide a proper education. Paeonian Springs 1934 Location: Colored Petition Folder, EWP Archives.
