Tate School Colored

Summary History

Tate was a Freedmen’s school started by Quakers in Loudoun.  Might have been the start of the Philomont or Greggsville schools, perhaps under different names.  There is evidence that seven Blacks received higher branch schooling here, which is a form of high school education at the lecture level.  Tate was also known as Lincoln Colored School.   See Lincoln for its history.
